ENGL3800W: Intro Creative Writ (40780)

Gehoski, Nathan

W 10:20 AM

Park Hall 67

Writing is not natural.

It’s a practice.

It’s a tool.

It’s a technology that can inform and liberate; oppress and deceive.

William Burroughs referred to language as a virus. If so, writing is one of its most prolific vectors. And in this class, we’ll learn how to reinvent ourselves as well-intentioned liars through a variety of exercises and workshops. Broadly speaking, we’ll be studying setting, dialogue, and movement across multiple genres (e.g., prose, poetry, drama, and non-fiction) in four units that will culminate in a 30-page final portfolio of “original” creative work.

Students will be expected to provide written comments on each other's writing, participate in class discussions and exercises, and attend any UGA sponsored reading events.
