This course is for English graduate students (MA and PhD). The goal of this course is to help you improve your academic writing skills to the point where you can successfully produce a major research writing project. Students will conduct research on their own individual research projects, develop the skills they need to handle complex writing tasks, learn to write for different academic venues and audiences, and strengthen their critical revision skills. This profession-based approach to research methods will include learning strong writing habits, discussing how to publish, how to present at conferences, how to craft an effective CV, and (depending on student interest) how to apply for humanities grants. The course will culminate with students producing a substantial literary research project, like a thesis chapter (or two) or an essay submitted for publication.
