ENGL1060h -- Composition and Multicultural Literature (Honors)

This is a writing course with an American literature component rather than a standard literature course. We will focus on developing effective critical writing and reading strategies, using contemporary Native American and African American literature for our core texts. American traditions and people are remarkably diverse, so we will explore only a few threads in the multicultural fabric of American culture, concentrating on questions of political, cultural, and personal identity and issues of self-determination. This course satisfies the Franklin College Multicultural requirement.

This course is both reading and writing intensive, with assignments due for almost every class. You may also be asked to submit a draft or peer review in between class meetings.
