Participants in this workshop, open to writers of any genre, will develop a practice of regular walking, write while walking and about walking, and engage a range of works which address walking and writing. Workshop will happen on a regular, rotating basis, often in small groups of 4-5 students, sometimes involving the class as a whole. Required books for study, which hail from earlier periods as well as the contemporary, comprise poetry, fiction, philosophy, history, and literary/cultural theory. Students will be responsible for submitting regular critical responses to these readings, as well as a final portfolio of revised exercises, complete with a 5-page introduction. Interested students who have a medical condition or physical handicap that might hinder or prevent them from walking should contact Dr. Zawacki (zawacki@uga.edu). We will happily figure out how to accommodate you.
