ENGL 6911 is a three-hour practicum that is taken by all Teaching Assistants during their first fall semester of composition teaching in the University of Georgia First-year Writing Program. The Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for the course are:

  • To understand the structure and features of UGA’s FYW Program;

  • To understand, apply, and evaluate the theory and practice behind FYW pedagogy;

  • To create, analyze and evaluate your personal FYW philosophy and practice;

  • To understand, apply, evaluate, and create methods of writing assessment;

  • To create a cohort of colleagues who can support your teaching;

  • To begin the process of professionalization by creating a composition teaching portfolio.
