This class will focus primarily on imaginative writing from the British Isles and the British Empire from the late 1860s to the end of the nineteenth century, including traditional topics such as the New Woman, Aestheticism and Decadence, and Imperialism. But we will also be interested in material that can stretch and challenge our ideas about what counts as “British” or “Victorian” at all.
