ENGL2340: American Literature from 1914 (62607)

Rosenbaum, Susan

TR 9:35 AM

Park Hall 144

This course will introduce you to developments in American literature beginning in the late nineteenth century (so a bit earlier than advertised in the title).  This historical period is roughly that of the modern era, and we will explore how a variety of writers responded to, imagined, and influenced modern American experience.   We will cover Realism, Modernism, and Postmodernism in the course of the semester. While this course imparts knowledge of particular authors and texts, it no less importantly aims to introduce you to the techniques of literary analysis; to develop your ability to analyze texts critically; to help you to synthesize and interpret cultural traditions; and to further your ability to express your ideas clearly and effectively in writing.
