Get ready for a survey of contemporary autobiography, from perennial favorites by Tanehisi Coates and Tracy K. Smith to more recent book-length memoirs and autobiographies including graphic selections. Students should anticipate reading 6-7 separately published works and writing essays to be submitted in incrementall sections throughout the term. Students will work in pairs to present author introductions and analyses of chapters or pages in the auboiographies in order to facilitate class discussion. I plan to re-introduce an assignment in which the class has an opportunity to select one of the memoirs we read.
