Specters of Marx

A survey of one of the most influential paradigms in the humanities and humanisitic social sciences--let alone the world--namely, Marxist critical theory.  We'll consider its utility to scrutinizing rhetorical, literary, and aesthetic artifacts as well as socio-historical institutions and processes, and we'll explore its most productive (or antagonistic) intersections with other paradigms, not least post/decolonial studies.

Our reading list will likely include selections from: Marx and Engles, Althusser, Horkheimer and Adorno, Herbert Marcuse, Franz Fanon, Walter Rodney, Stuart Hall, Silivia Federici, Chandra Mohanty, Aijaz Ahmad, Derrida, Frederic Jameson, Epifanio San Juan Jr., Jodi Dean, Donna Haraway, Mark Fisher, S. Zizek, and China Miéville.
