This course is a great introduction to Shakespeare and the world of early modern theatre. We'll read about playgoing, theatres, costumes, props, and audiences alongside some of Shakespeare's most famous plays, and a few poems. We'll also watch performances of his places ranging from The Globe Theatre's original practices productions to more recent and quite modern ones. Plays we read may include: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Titus Andronicus, Hamlet, Othello, The Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, and The Winter's Tale.
