MWF 11:30 AM

Park Hall 0144

This course will introduce you to modernist literature in the United States. We will study literary modernism as it engages modernism in the other arts (the visual arts, music, film, dance); scientific and technological innovations (mass production, psychoanalysis, the automobile, the skyscraper); and historical and political contexts (immigration, migration north, the two world wars, U.S. imperialism, the great depression, the modern city). We will spend some time working with materials in the Georgia Museum of Art and Special Collections Library. Students will study the importance of little magazines to the articulation and dissemination of modernist aims and ideals, and each student will complete a research project on a little magazine.
