ASTONISHING PRESENCE: WOMEN IN THE ARCHIVES AT THE UGA SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARY

RESEARCH, CREATE, AND DELIVER GEORGIA WOMEN ARCHIVE KITS TO THE COMMON GOOD ATLANTA INCARCERATED CLASSROOM AT WHITWORTH WOMEN’S FACILITY.

This class will work with the Special Collections Library Archives to bring Georgia women's stories to Whitworth Women's Facility.  This is the beginning of a multi-semester conversation around women's significance to the state of Georgia's initiation and development.  We will spend a lot of classtime at the SCL in service to this work, but students are not expected to be off-campus for other service assignments.  There will be one optional visit to Whitworth to discuss the project and how the archive kits will be used in future classes.

The semester will also include class visits and filmed interviews with formerly incarcerated women who are now Georgia activists, impacting our communities and changing people's lives with their own wisdom and experience.  Finally, our work will be celebrated at a community facing pop-up exhibit in the SCL during the final exam window.
