According to the UGA Bulletin, this course surveys “[i]mportant writers and movements in the mosaic of American culture and literature with special attention to African American, Native American, Hispanic American, and Asian American literatures.” We will focus on southern writers working in a variety of genres from the mid twentieth-century onwards. Primary assignments will include a mixture of high- and low-stakes activities including short, in-class presentations, an in-class midterm essay and final in-class essay, and regular written reflections on the literature we discuss.
