ENGL4791: American Autobiography (63500)

McCaskill, Barbara

TR 11:10 AM

Park Hall 0259

This class will explore twentieth- and twenty-first century memoirs, autobiographies, and biographies written or inspired by members of the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame: including but not limited to authors such as Janisse Ray, Pat Conroy, Natasha Trethewey, Valerie Boyd, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Jimmy Carter.  Students can expect to accomplish a combination of high- and low-stakes assignments: a short, individual, in-class presentation; a midterm exam; and a final, scaffolded or incrementally submitted writing assignment which combines autobiographical writing, critical reflection, and multimedia.
